  • HOW VISIONS OF ZADEH LED TO FORMATION OF NEW MODELS OF NATURAL LANGUAGE
    VILEM NOVAK (pp. 29-40)
  • Abstract.

This is an overview paper that discusses papers by Lotfi A. Zadeh related to natural language. He was the first who noticed that semantics of the natural language is vague in principle and suggested modeling it using fuzzy sets. He also came with the idea that some phenomena, namely linguistic hedges, can be modeled using special operators. In the paper, we briefly overview some of the essential Zadeh’s papers and discuss results following his ideas. We especially mention the theory of evaluative linguistic expressions and fuzzy quantifiers.
